Liverpool Update: Beckenbauer on Van Dijk, Karius return, Botman contact

Virgil Van Dijk-Liverpool

German footballing legend Franz Beckenbauer has heaped praise on the Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman is ruled out for the remainder of this season with a knee injury but the German defender claims that van Dijk is one of the best defenders in the world and the Liverpool star has really impressed him.

Beckenbauer added that there are no weaknesses to van Dijk‘s game and that he loves the Liverpool defender.

He said: “Virgil van Dijk really impresses me. I started to notice him at Liverpool and in the Dutch national team. He has this power and ability in him that are quite impressive.

“He shows it on all levels. I don’t see any weaknesses in him. At first glance, because of his stature, you might think he lacks speed and agility, but that’s not the case at all. He is very manoeuvrable and can anticipate situations very well. I love this player.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool are looking to sign the former Ajax defender Sven Botman In order to cope with their injury crisis.

The defender has done exceedingly well since moving to France and Liverpool have made contact with Lille or his representatives regarding a potential move.

Apparently the French club could cash in on the defender because of their financial crisis and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool can snap him up next month.

Liverpool keeper Loris Karius could return to the club next month after just one loan appearance for Union Berlin.

The German outfit are not convinced of his quality and they are prepared to cancel his loan deal.

The goalkeeper’s career has gone downhill ever since his horror show against Real Madrid in the Champions League final and he has been out on loan at several clubs since then.

It is evident that he has no future at the Premier League club and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to terminate his contract or send him out on loan once again.
