Man City edge past Brighton to move into the top three of the Premier League

Man City 4-0 Liverpool City crushed Premier League champion

Manchester City picked up a 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Phil Foden scored the only goal of the game to secure all three points for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Manchester City were the dominant side from the start and Kevin De Bruyne could have easily put the home side ahead but he was denied thrice by the Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

Riyad Mahrez had an excellent volley saved by the Brighton keeper as well but Manchester City made the breakthrough on the 44th minute when Phil Foden placed a clever side-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez came close once again after a pinpoint pass from Rodrigo and the likes of Ilkay Gundogan  was denied by the Brighton keeper.

Bernardo Silva could have doubled Manchester City’s advantage in the second half but the Portuguese midfielder hit the crossbar.

Manchester City were firm favourites heading into the game and the defeat tonight for Brighton is hardly a surprise

Pep Guardiola will be impressed with his team’s performance tonight but he will know that his team could have won with a bigger margin.

Raheem Sterling missed a penalty in stoppage time after Kevin de Bruyne was brought down in the Brighton box by Sanchez.

The win tonight takes Manchester City up to third in the table with 32 points and Brighton are now down to 17th with 14 points.

City are now just one point behind Liverpool with a game in hand and they will be hoping to overtake the Premier League champions with a win in their next game.

As for Brighton, they are three points above the relegation zone and they will have to improve a lot in order to beat the drop this season.
