United enquire about Alaba

Manchester United have made contact with soon-to-become free agent David Alaba, with Bayern Munich chief Rummenigge confirming that the defender can negotiate with other clubs in January.

The 28-year-old is understood to be on the radar of a host of Europe’s top clubs including United’s cross-town rivals Manchester City.

Ancelotti reveals past Man United links

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson asked about his availability over the new manager job at Old Trafford back in 2013. However, the Italian gaffer turned down the offer since he was committed to Real Madrid at that time.

Ancelotti said,  “I can say that I keep a fantastic relationship with Sir Alex. We met when he decided to stop but I was close to Real Madrid. I appreciate the fact at that time he talked to me.”

Ferguson also wrote in his book Leading that Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho were preferred before United settled on David Moyes, who would become a massive failure at Old Trafford.

“It became apparent that Jose Mourinho had given his word to Roman Abramovich that he would return to Chelsea and that Carlo Ancelotti would succeed him at Real Madrid.”

United join Liverpool in the pursuit of Renato Sanches

Manchester United are set to rival Liverpool for the signing of Lille youngster Renato Sanches. The Portuguese midfielder turns out to be a top target for the Reds in January but United have joined the race now. It is also reported that the Red Devils were considering signing Sanches during Jose Mourinho’s time before he moved to Bayern Munich.
