Manchester United extend 27-yr-old’s contract amid transfer interest

Paul Pogba-Manchester United

Manchester United have decided to trigger a one-year extension in Paul Pogba’s contract.

The 27-year-old midfielder had a contract with the Old Trafford outfit until June of 2021 but the Premier League side have decided to extend his deal for another year.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and Juventus earlier this summer and it seems the transfer links have forced United’s hand.

The Premier League side cannot afford to lose a world-class player like Pogba on a free transfer and therefore the extension makes perfect sense.

However, the extension does not mean Paul Pogba will stay at the club next season. It will just allow United to get a reasonable transfer fee for him and it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds at the end of this season.

Pogba has not been at his best ever since his return to Old Trafford and he might be keen on pursuing a new challenge at a different club.

A move to Real Madrid could be the ideal next step in the French international’s career.

Real Madrid star Luka Modric is well past his peak and Pogba could be his ideal long term replacement at Santiago Bernabeu.

Manchester United paid a club-record fee for the French midfielder and they will be hoping to recoup as much as possible if the midfielder decides to move on at the end of this season.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Pogba can deliver a quality season this year before leaving the club and justify his massive price tag.

There is no doubt that he’s a world-class player but he has struggled to fit in at Manchester United so far.

The fans will certainly, be expecting a special season from their talisman midfielder and it remains to be seen whether he can step up and deliver.
