Chelsea picked up a 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League earlier today at .

Federico Fernandez scored the opening goal of the game for Chelsea when the Argentine defender poked the ball over his own line while under pressure from Ben Chilwell.

The Newcastle defender struggled to deal with Mason Mount’s cross and he sent it past his own keeper.

Tammy Abraham doubled Chelsea’s advantage in the second half after a fantastic run from Timo Werner.

The win takes Chelsea to the top of the Premier League table and it was their fifth straight win in all competitions.

Newcastle had the chance to get on the score sheet but Sean Longstaff hit the post towards the end of the game.

The Blues have 18 points from nine Premier League matches right now and they are ahead of Leicester City on goal difference. It will be interesting to see if the Foxes can reclaim their place at the top of the table with a win over Liverpool this weekend.

Newcastle were without leading scorer Callum Wilson today and their attack was severely weakened.

The Magpies have scored ten Premier League goals this season and Wilson has scored six of them. Steve Bruce will be hoping to have him back in the site as soon as possible.
