Newcastle 1-2 Leeds: Raphinha, Harrison goals secure 3-points for Leeds

Raphinha-Leeds United

Leeds United held on for a 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Newcastle came into this game on the back of  an 8 match winless run and they were under pressure to pick up a win tonight.

On the other hand Leeds had lost their last three matches coming into this game.

Summer signing Raphinha gave Leeds United their lead on the 17th minute but Newcastle came back into the game 12 minutes into the second half through Miguel Almiron.

Leeds winger Jack Harrison scored the match-winning goal on the 61st minute to hand the three points to the visitors.

Harrison scored with a fierce shot from the left-hand side of the box.

Newcastle could have won the game on another day but they were unlucky and the likes of Jamal Lewis and Jamal Lascelles both hit the crossbar after Harrison’s goal.

Meanwhile Jonjo Shelvey was denied an equaliser by a brilliant save from Meslier.

Steve Bruce was already under pressure heading into tonight’s game and the defeat against Leeds will pile further misery on him.

It will be interesting to see if Newcastle decide to stick with him for the remainder of the season.

The magpies are very much in a relegation battle right now and they should act decisively and bring in a new manager who can transform their fortunes.

Sticking with Steve Bruce only to go down to the championship could prove to be disastrous for the club’s financial future.
