Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has been hailed for his team’s performance against Manchester City in the Premier League last night.
The London club picked up a 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s team and Jose Mourinho produced a tactical masterclass against his long term adversary.
The Portuguese manager managed to outfox Guardiola during their time together in the Spanish League as well and he will be delighted with the way his game plan nullified Manchester cities threat yesterday.
Even the Manchester City manager himself admitted that Mourinho’s teams are hard to breakdown and they sat deep throughout the game and hurt Manchester City on the counter.
Popular pundit Jamie Redknapp as claimed that Tottenham have played some beautiful football over the years but they have failed to win trophies but Jose Mourinho’s tactics might just end their quest for silverware and the fans will surely be happy with that even if the quality of football has to be sacrificed.
He said: “I wasn’t sure Jose Mourinho could do it at Spurs but he makes players work so hard. It’s unbelievable how hard Harry Kane and Son Heung-min work without the ball. Spurs did so well without the ball – it was a masterclass from Jose and the team.”
Meanwhile former Manchester United defender Gary Neville claimed that it was like watching the Mourinho of old and Tottenham were really good throughout the game.
Neville said: “I doubted it a few weeks ago [they could win the title] and I’m not going to change from that. But they are certainly gaining in confidence and this was a really good performance. In the first half, it was resilient and the Mourinho of old. In the second half, they were just better than City.”
The London club are definitely in the title race this season and it will be interesting to see if they can continue to build on their recent run of form and pull clear at the top of the table over the coming weeks.
