Tottenham are close to appointing Gennaro Gattuso as their new manager. Gattuso left Fiorentina and Spurs-Fonseca talks fell though during last couple of days.

Tottenham were expected to confirm the appointment of Paulo Fonseca this week. Still, it seems that talks have broken down with the former Roma manager, and they are now closing in on the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso.

The newly appointed club director Fabio Paratici spoke to Gattuso regarding the managerial vacancy at Juventus at the end of the last season. Therefore it is no surprise that he has contacted the former Italian international for the Spurs managerial role.

Gattuso was appointed as the manager of Fiorentina last month. Still, he has chosen to leave after just three weeks in the role owing to differences with the club hierarchy regarding transfer targets.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can finalise his appointment in the coming days.

He has done a reasonably good job at AC Milan, and Napoli and Gattuso could prove to be a useful appointment for the Londoners.

However, the former Italian international has a strong personality. It will be interesting to see if he can form a good working relationship with Daniel Levy, especially when it comes to transfers.

Although Paratici is expected to be in charge of transfers, club chairman Daniel Levy will likely to continue playing a key role in running the club.

It has been two months since Jose Mourinho was sacked, and Tottenham are yet to bring in his long term replacement. It will be interesting to see if Gattuso can come in and convince players like Harry Kane to stay at the club beyond this summer.

Kane wants to leave the club in order to win trophies, and Gattuso is quite inexperienced as a manager, and his arrival might not be enough to change the England international’s mind.
