Tuchel’s gamble with Lampard’s outcasts continue to pay-off for Chelsea

Kepa to leave Chelsea on loan after Edouard Mendy signing

Thomas Tuchel has now picked up four wins and a draw in his first five Premier League games as the Chelsea manager.

There is no doubt that the Blues have improved a lot since the arrival of the German manager and his decision to give the outcasts under Frank Lampard a second chance has paid off so far.

The former Chelsea boss had given up on the likes of Kepa Arizzabalaga, Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen.

However, Tuchel has brought all four players back into the first-team fold and they managed to deliver for him against Newcastle United earlier tonight.

The Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arizzabalaga was handed a rare start against Newcastle earlier today and he produced an assured display in between the posts for Chelsea.

Kepa made some impressive saves from Shelvey and Willock during the game and today’s performance could do his confidence a world of good.

Similarly, Chelsea needed some defensives improvements when the German manager came in and his decision to bring Marcos Alonso and Antonio Rudiger back into the lineup seems to have worked out well so far.

Tuchel wanted to sign Rudiger during his time as the Paris Saint Germain manager and he has helped the German defender recapture his confidence.

Chelsea will be expected to finish in the top four this season and the Premier League title is beyond their reach now. It will be interesting to see if the Blues continue to improve under the new manager and established themselves as the nearest challengers to Manchester City next season.
