Ronald Koeman speaks about plans for Antoine Griezmann

The French World Cup winner was off to a sedate start in his first season.

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman looks to have a plan in place for Antoine Griezmann, who moved to the Nou Camp last summer.

The 29-year-old had been underwhelming in his first season, failing to live up to the expectations of his 120 million euros price tag.

However, the new Barca manager has said that Griezmann needs to be reverted to his original position.

Koeman said, “He[Griezmann] is not a traditional winger, so you have to play him in his own position, in a role that suits him and where he can showcase his abilities. You have to know your players as a coach and ensure you get the best out of them.”

The former Atletico Madrid star played under two different managers – Ernesto Valverde and Quique Setien – in his first season with the Catalans while not generating a great return.

Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu has recently stated that Griezmann will not be up for sale alongside a few others despite an offseason for the Catalans.

Griezmann was previously linked with a transfer move to Serie A champions Juventus.

Koeman also spoke about the changes he’s going to implement with his compatriot Frenkie de Jong. The young Dutch midfielder has impressed in his first season, Koeman, however, thinks that he should be played in the position he does at Ajax and the Netherlands national team.

Koeman was appointed as the new manager after the sacking of Quique Setien. The Blaugrana have put several first-team players on transfer exchange as they are preparing for a squad overhaul.
