Genoa 1-3 Roma: Mkhitaryan hat-trick seals three points for the visitors

Henrikh Mkhitaryan-AS Roma

Roma continued their winning run in Serie A after routing Genoa.

AS Roma have picked up an away win in Serie A against Genoa after Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored a stunning hat-trick.

Mkhitaryan had an early go at the goal however his strike was saved by Mattia Perin before hitting the post.

But that didn’t keep him too long as he gave the Giallorossi the lead right before the half time after netting a header from Veretout’s cross.

The equaliser didn’t last long as Marko Pjaca pulled one back for Genoa after a through ball from Gianluca Scammaca.

Roma soon restored the lead in the 66th minute after Mkhitaryan netted his second goal of the game, set up by Bruno Peres. The Armenian playmaker completed his hat-trick with a thunderous volley to wrap up the game.

Mkhitaryan has been impressive in Serie A so far this season, racking up a total of three goals and four assists.

Paulo Fonseca, the Giallorossi manager, looks to be delighted with the win, which came in the space of three days after thrashing CFR Cluj 5-0 in Europa League. The win also sends Roma to the fourth in Serie A table, leapfrogging Juventus by a point as the defending champions had dropped a point earlier today.

Fonseca said, “It was a win full of character, the team showed a really great attitude. We created a few different chances to score – and Genoa scored from the only mistake we made.”

“We need to keep our concentration for the entire 90 minutes. After the third goal it was important we defended well, and I think the players all understood that. I’m really pleased with the attitude they showed.”
