Inter Milan 2-0 Juventus: Inter register a comprehensive win; Vidal, Barella score

Romelu Lukaku-Nicolo Barella-Inter Milan

Inter reign victorious in the Serie A derby. Arturo Vidal and Nicolo Barella score to provide Inter Milan a comprehensive victory.

Inter Milan have overwhelmed Juventus 2-0 in the derby at home as they are now level on points with leaders and arch-rivals AC Milan.

Both Juve and Inter were coming on the back of a win in their respective Serie A fixtures and the Italian derby was considered to have a larger impact on the title race.

The midfield duo of Arturo Vidal and Nico Barella combined to give Inter the lead, with the former one scoring a header from the latter’s cross.

The Nerazzurri could have doubled the lead before the half time but the attacking duo Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku were complacent with their chances.

As far as Juve was concerned in the first half, Cristiano Ronaldo had a goal chalked off due to Chiesa’s offside positioning in the build-up.

Barella doubled the lead shortly after the second half commenced, with the Italian midfielder finding the nets from  Bastoni’s assist.

Juve had a near defining moment in the second half when Federico Chiesa forced a stunning save from Samir Handanovic.

With the win, Antonio Conte’s side have moved closer to the Scudetto race, currently sharing the same points as leaders Milan.

Andrea Pirlo has suffered another setback in his first season as Juve gaffer and the hopes of retaining the title appear to be withering down for the Bianconeri.

Pirlo offered his thoughts on the disappointing draw.

“We got the attitude wrong from the start and when you don’t have the determination to win the duels, it becomes difficult.”

“We just didn’t step onto the pitch, we were timorous, afraid of Inter’s attacking play, so in our minds we only focused on defending and weren’t even very aggressive with that either. We allowed Inter to take the initiative and they become devastating in those circumstances.
