Inter Milan

Inter Milan will look to get back to winning ways in the league when they welcome Venezia to San Siro this weekend.

The hosts’ eight game-winning run in the league came to an end last week as they were held to a goalless draw by Atalanta. The game was the first time they had failed to score in their last 39 Serie A games.

Despite the draw, they are still two points clear of the second-placed AC Milan with a game in hand.

Simone Inzaghi’s side come into this tie on the back of a 3-2 win over Empoli in the Coppa Italia round of 16. A goal from Alexis Sanchez, Andrea Ranocchia and Stefano Sensi secured the win for the visitors in extra time as Empoli had held them to a 2-2 draw in normal time.

Overall, the defending champions have kept a clean sheet in seven of their last eight league games, including the reverse H2H with Venezia where they ran out 2-0 victors.

They will fancy their chances of winning this game and extending their stay at the top of the table.

Possible Inter starting line-ups

Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij, Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, Denzel Dumfries, Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcelo Brozovic, Ivan Perisic, Lautaro Martinez, Joaquin Correa.

Venezia

Venezia’s winless run in all competitions continued last weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Empoli. A David Okereke’s second-half strike for Venezia was enough to get them a point after midfielder Simon Zukowski had opened the scoring for Empoli in the first half.

The result was the visitors’ fifth consecutive game without a win in all competitions and kept them just two points ahead of Cagliari who are occupying the last relegation spot, having played a game more.

They have lost ‘to-nil’ in each of their five SA matches against current top-four sides, and because they’ve scored a joint-league low six away goals this term (W2, D3, L5).

With the new signing of Nani providing an assist less than two minutes after coming on, Paolo Zanetti will be optimistic that his team can pull off a shock win against the defending champions on this occasion.

Possible Venezia starting line-ups

Luca Lezzerini, Ethan Ampadu, Mattia Caldara, Pietro Ceccaroni, Cristian Molinaro, Domen Crnigoj, Tanner Tessmann, Mickael Cuisance, Mattia Aramu, Gianluca Busio, Thomas Henry.

Injured: None

Doubtful: Dennis Johnsen, Pasquale Mazzocchi, Ridgeciano Haps, Sergio Romero

Suspended: None
