Jose Mourinho was recently appointed the manager of AS Roma, and the Portuguese is set to take over at the end of the season.

The Italian outfit has been quite mediocre under Paulo Fonseca, and Mourinho will be expected to guide them to trophies next season.

Roma have not won a trophy for over a decade now, and it will be interesting to see if the former Tottenham manager can transform their fortunes.

Mourinho has previously coached Inter Milan, and he was hugely successful with the Italian outfit. He helped them win the Scudetto and the Champions League during his time at the club.

The reaction from the Italian media following the appointment of Jose Mourinho shows how highly he is rated in the country.

Reputed newspapers like Gazzetta dello Sport came up with front-page coverage hailing the arrival of the Portuguese manager. Their headline read: ‘Ave Mou’, meaning ‘Hail Mou’.

Local papers like Il Romanista went wild with excitement and came up with the headline ‘Dimmi Jose’ – which can be translated into ‘tell me what you want, Jose’.

The newly appointed Roma manager has been likened to the Roman emperor by the Italian media as well. It will be interesting to see if Mourinho can live up to the expectations at Roma next season.

The Italian side have a talented core of young players, and Mourinho will have to build his side around them. However, the club hierarchy will have to back him in the transfer market if Roma are to challenge the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus next season.
