Lazio 1–0 Sampdoria: Luis Alberto’s first-half strike seals 3-points for Lazio

Luis Alberto-Lazio

The Biancocelesti moved to fourth place in the Serie A table after a narrow win over Sampdoria.

Luis Alberto‘s first-half strike made the difference as Lazio edged out Sampdoria 1-0 at Stadio Olimpico.

The Spaniard sported another excellent display as he scored the only goal of the game whilst being at his creative best.

Alberto was close to finding the nets early on in the game but it didn’t keep him long as he netted a fine right-footed strike in the 24th minute after the assist from fellow midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile was unfortunate to find the scoresheet on his birthday as the Italian had a shot denied by goalkeeper Emile Audero and rifled another great opportunity over the post after a brilliant looking lofted ball from Alberto.

Sampdoria looked lively in the second-half but they were unable to test Lazio shot-stopper, Pepe Reina.

Vedat Muriqi, who came as a substitute, could have put the game to bed but he missed the easiest of chances after being set up brilliantly by wing-back Adam Marusic.

Simone Inzaghi’s men took home all the three points while also leapfrogged Juventus to the fourth position in the table.

Lazio’s impressive run over in the league was halted by the defeat against Inter Milan last week but today’s victory could have handed them much-needed confidence, especially when their Champions League round of 16 game against Bayern Munich is on the horizon. They are aware of the fact it would take some doing to stop Bayern’s attack.
