Napoli 2-1 Benevento: Insigne brothers score for opposing team

The Partenopei have inspired a comeback win against Benevento.

Napoli have defeated Benevento 2-1 in front of the limited audience at Stadio Ciro Vigorito.

The first half saw Napoli dominate the proceedings and they were close to finding their first goal.  Victor Osimhen’s strike was ruled out offside in the 17th minute after the assist from Mario Rui.  Meanwhile, Lorenzo Insigne suffered the same fate – with the intrusion of VAR – in the opening minutes of the second half.

However, it was Benevento who drew first blood when Roberto Insigne, the younger brother of Lorenzo Insigne, scored the opening goal at the half-hour mark. Lapadula provided the assist after a brilliant cut-back to find the 26-year-old.

Gennaro Gattuso’s men continued their dominance in the second half in search of the equalizer and they finally got their reward.

Lorenzo Insigne scored the equalizer for Napoli at the hour mark, firing in a left-footed strike from outside the box.

The Neapolitans soon had their lead after Petagna, who came off the bench, to score his first goal for the club.

Napoli have kept their winning run intact in Serie A this season despite losing their game against Juventus after they were declared forfeit. The wins against Atalanta and Genoa were achieved with sheer dominance. However, their win against Benevento might have restored their confidence following the defeat to AZ Alkmaar in Europa League.

Filippo Inzaghi’s Benevento were off to a fluctuating start in Serie A following their promotion, losing three and winning two thus far.
