Juventus’ title defence down the hill, Milan clubs are competing for the Scudetto with Inter Milan having the edge. Yes! Serie A has witnessed a drastic change this season, unlike the previous years. We are almost entering into the business end of things and here’s how the Serie A title race is shaping up.

Inter gained ground after an emphatic derby win.

Inter haven’t had the brightest of starts to the season as they suffered a draw and a defeat in their first four games including the 2-1 loss to rivals AC Milan in the derby. Antonio Conte’s side also looked more troubled with the congested schedule, which eventually saw them getting eliminated from the Champions League group stage and the worrying thing was they ended up last in their group and hence couldn’t even participate in the Europa League. It was not even midway through the season but Inter were written off too quickly. But Conte embarked on a different mission following the Champions League humiliation as the Italian gaffer helped his side to pick up a string of impressive victories and all of a sudden, Nerazzurri were right behind then-leaders AC Milan in the Scudetto race. And then came the most coveted Milan derby, which would have a big say on the title race. Inter exacted revenge by demolishing Rossoneri with the help of star duo Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku has been their main man as the Belgian has racked up a total of 18 goals this season. After the recent win against Parma, Inter extended their lead to six points at the top of the table and their chances of lifting the title in a decade time are high.

Rossoneri throwing their chances away

AC Milan had been relentless for the majority of the season and looked as they would be the title favourites but it was until the start of January where they were handed their first defeat against January. Rossoneri would lose against Atalanta, Spezia and Inter from that point, slipping their chances at the crucial time. Now they are looking depleted with confidence and have a mountainous take to knock their rivals Inter off their perch.

Juventus’ title defence under threat

There can’t be anything as fluctuating as Juventus’ form under Andrea Pirlo this season. Although there were wins that reflects the positives of the former Italian midfielders, loopholes aplenty to still remind us he is in the debut season of his managerial career. Everybody witnessed how the Old Lady got exposed in the final half of the last season and the story continued to this term as well. Unlike the previous seasons where Juve were hardly threatened by fierce competition, there are now a handful of teams who have raised the bars in recent times. Sitting at third in the table and ten points behind leaders Inter Milan, Juve are likely to miss out on the trophy after a decade long of dominance in Serie A.
