Lazio Hold off Spezia to claim A 2:1 win.

In the first kick-Off of the Italian Serie A Match Day 10, Lazio beat the newly-promoted side Spezia to claim all three points.

The away team were able to navigate a tricky tie and emerge with all three points, taking them to 17 points in ten games.

With a crucial Champions League tie ahead, the visitors began the tie, looking like a distracted team with their host dominating the early exchanges and threatening to score.

However, it was the visitors who will break the deadlock in the 15th minute courtesy of a goal from veteran striker Ciro Immobile who notched his ninth goal of the season in 10 appearances via a Milinkovic-Savic assist.

The Serb doubled Lazio’s lead 18 minutes later with a superb free-kick that beat Provedel in the Spezia goal on its way to the far-right top corner.

Spezia continued to string together some decent attacking moves but couldn’t muster up a goal with veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina making a few routines saves to deny the hosts the first half ended with the scoreline still at 0:2.

Spezia started the second half as they did the first half and in the 64th minute got a deserved goal through French attacker Mbala N’zola who was a thorn in the flesh of the Lazio defence all through the match.

With one eye on the crucial champions league fixture against Club Brugge on Tuesday, Head coach Simone Inzaghi made changes just past the hour mark with Ciro Immobile making way for Ivorian midfielder Jean Clair to ensure the veteran striker has enough much-needed rest heading into the clash on Tuesday.

Despite the flurry of changes, Lazio held on to grind out the result against an enthusiastic yet unlucky Spezia team.

Lazio have now won 5, drawn two and lost three matches in the Italian Serie A but are yet to taste defeat in the champions league this year.

The visitors are back in action on Tuesday while Spezia play Crotone next Sunday.
