Spezia 2-0 AC Milan: League leaders crash to a shock defeat away from home

Zlatan Ibrahimovic set to sign a one-year deal with AC Milan

AC Milan missed a glorious opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Italian League with a win tonight.

They are two points clear at the top of the table and they could have extended that lead to five points had the beaten Spezia earlier.

The League leaders crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Spezia in the Italian League earlier tonight.

Goals from Giulio Maggiore and Simone Bastoni in the second half ensured a shock win for the home side.

The home side put on a dominant display and they fully deserved the three points today.

Spezia have already beaten the likes of Roma and Napoli this year and they managed to pull off another upset against AC Milan.

The away side will be thoroughly disappointed with their performance tonight and they could lose they have top spot in the table if Inter Milan manage to win their next game.

Inter have 47 points from 21 matches and AC Milan have 49 points having played one more game.

The Italian League title race has been closer than ever this year and AC Milan cannot afford to drop points against the weaker sides if they want to win the title this season.

Spezia are up to 14th in the League table after tonight’s win and they will be hoping to pull further clear of the drop zone in the coming weeks. The bottom half of the league table is quite closely matched and Spezia could move into the top half with a couple of wins.
