Torino 1-2 Inter Milan: Lukaku and Martinez strike as Inter ensure top-spot

Romelu Lukaku-Inter Milan

A late winner from Martinez won Inter the game after Antonio Sanabria had equalised for Torino.

Inter Milan continued their march towards their first Scudetto in eleven years with a hard-fought win over Torino on Sunday.

The Serie A leaders extended their unbeaten run to 12 games as goals from in-form strike partners Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, either side of a dramatic Torino equaliser was enough to extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points.

Torino fought hard but couldn’t withstand their visitors who under the guidance of Antonio Conte are storming away with the Serie A title as other title contenders struggle.

The visitors dominated much of the first half, but could not create any clear-cut chances in the opening period. They could have been behind in the 30th minute, but Lyanco’s header for Torino hit the post.

But after the break, Inter broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute via a Romelu Lukaku penalty. The Belgian converted from the spot to score his 19th Serie A goal of the season after Martinez had been fouled in the box.

The lead did not last though as Torino equaliser ten minutes later through Antonio Sanabria, who reacted quickest to score following a Torino corner.

Despite the harsh equaliser, the visitors who were without their coach who was serving a touchline ban remained determined to get a winner. Their winner came five minutes from full-time as Martinez rose highest to head home an Alexis Sanchez cross.

The goal was the Argentine’s 14th in the league this season and ensured that Inter went home with all three points.
