Verona 0-2 AC Milan: Krunic, Dalot took centerstage, keeping alive title pursuit

Dalot-AC Milan

Rade Krunic and Diogo Dalot scored as Milan kept their first clean sheet in seven games and keep the pressure on Inter Milan at the top of the table.

After a frustrating draw with Udinese in midweek, title contenders AC Milan got back to winning ways on Sunday as they despatched a determined Verona side in their Serie A meeting at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

The win which was Milan’s second in five games in all competitions ensured that Stefano Pioli’s side remain second on the standings and within touching distance of Inter Milan in first place.

Verona to their credit were not intimidated by their visitors who were without veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and started the brighter of the two teams. They were the first to trouble their visitors in the early exchanges and were close to capitalising on a gaffe at the back by Donnarumma.

But Milan rallied and were ahead in the 27th minute through a fantastic Rade Krunic goal. The midfielder opened the scoring with a well-taken free-kick that beat the Verona wall and rattled into the far-top corner of Marco Silvestri’s goal.

The goal was the only meaningful goalmouth action in the first half as the visitors entered into the break with a single goal cushion.

The visitor’s second goal of the afternoon came five minutes after the restart through Diogo Dalot. The Manchester United loanee sent his team two up after a lovely run and cut-back by Alexis Saelemaekers had found him free in the six-yard box.

The goal was his first for the club since his loan move from Manchester United and was enough to seal the win for Milan who moved to within three points of Inter Milan who are playing later.

The hosts face Sassuolo next in the league while Milan face Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday.
