Verona 3-1 Napoli: Verona come from behind to cancel Lozano’s early strike

Hirving Lozano-Napoli

Verona completed an emphatic comeback to stun Napoli.

Verona have produced an impressive turnaround in the 3-1 win against Napoli despite Hirving Lozano’s early goal.

The Mexican winger put Napoli upfront after finding the nets in the opening minute of the game. Lozano also became the third-fastest goal scorer in Serie A history with that goal.

However, Verona responded with an equalizer in the 34th minute from Dimarco’s header as the defender made it up for being at fault for Napoli’s first goal.

The Neapolitans suffered a double blow in the second half after goals from Baral and Zaccagni. The home side thus completed their come-back to seal three points.

Elsewhere, Napoli look to have not gotten over the defeat against Juventus in the Italian Super Cup defeat as they have now suffered back-to-back defeats.

Furthermore, the Partenopei have slipped to sixth in the table as their race for top-four finish has taken a hit.

Unsurprisingly, Gennaro Gattuso wasn’t happy with the result and insisted that he had to take some responsibility.

“I make the decisions, so when we don’t win, it’s my responsibility. It’s disappointing, because we had the right game-plan, we made it difficult for them, created four or five scoring opportunities in the first half and could’ve killed the game.”

“The regret is that, we could’ve done so much and kept wasting it. We were always four against four and didn’t make the right passes. We know this Verona side loves to play physical football, so we started to do what they wanted.”
