Sevilla outplayed Barcelona 2-0 in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Sevilla have taken a big step towards the final after defeating Barcelona 2-0 at home in the first leg of Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Lionel Messi had a great chance denied by goalkeeper Bounou after being played on by Antoine Griezmann.

Sevilla drew first blood at the 25th minute after defender Jules Kounde found the nets stunningly. The young French centre-back once again showed he is a goal threat despite being good at defence.

Barca were allowed to enjoy more possession by the home side, who perhaps relied on the counter-attacks for the larger parts of the game.

The credit goes to Sevilla keeper Bounou, who was rock solid between the sticks, producing a total of three saves from Blaugrana ace Messi.

Ivan Rakitic capped off the game with a calm and composed finish, thus scoring his first goal against his former club Barca since leaving them in the summer. The Croatian has also put Sevilla on the front in this exciting semi-final tie.

As expected, Barca struggled a lot at the back especially with the absence of Ronald Araujo. The selection of Samuel Umtiti and Junior Firpo raises a serious question as both the defenders were off-colour for the night.

Sevilla have taken a deserved 2-0 in the aggregate and all Barca must be hoping is for a comeback next month at the Nou Camp.
