Tottenham 2-0 Antwerp: Vinicius, Lo Celso goals send Spurs to top of the group

Spurs edge out the Belgians to go to the top of their group. Bale and Kane played critical roles for these goals.

Tottenham have concluded the Europa League group stage on a high note, defeating Antwerp 2-0 at home.

The game was touted as an exciting clash as the winners had the chance to top the group.

The first half was an uninspiring one from both the teams however two goals were scored in the second half, with Spanish side scoring two goals.

Carlos Vinicius opened the account after he pounced on the rebound from Atwerp’s goalkeeper, who failed to catch it clean from Gareth Bale. The Brazilian has already bagged three goals to his name in Europa League this season and is turning out to be a great back-up to in-form Harry Kane.

Argentine midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso doubled the lead after teaming up with striker Harry Kane, thus helping Spurs to pick up important points on the final matchday. The introduction of both Kane and Heung-min Son changed the course of the game in the second half.

The win also served as a reply to Spurs ‘ 1 – 0 defeat to Lask in the reverse fixture.

While already topping the Premier League points table, Jose Mourinho’s side have also been clinical in the Europa League this season, suffering only defeat against Antwerp in the away clash.

Spurs could also welcome fellow Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester United in the latter stages of the competition, with the Red Devils getting thrown to Europa League after the 3-2 defeat against RB Leipzig.
