Bayern managed to defeat Salzburg despite Marc Roja’s red card.

Bayern Munich have defeated Salzburg 3-1 at Allianz Arena, qualifying for the round of 16 of Champions League.

The game was never easy for the hosts as Salzburg often created danger in the first half and Dominic Szoboszlai nearly scored the breakthrough before he fired his shot wide.

However, Bayern made Salzburg pay for their missed chance as they quickly took the lead after Robert Lewandowski found the nets.

Kingsley Coman doubled the lead after his strike took a wicked deflection from Salzburg’s defence before travelling to the nets.

The second half also saw Bayern midfielder Marc Roja get a red card for accumulating two yellows. Minutes later, Leroy Sane tripled the lead after heading the ball past the goalkeeper, assisted by Coman.

The Austrian side pulled back one through Berisha’s strike but that wasn’t enough for them.

Salzburg’s UCL journey was halted after the defeat meanwhile Bayern have booked their place in knockouts.

The Bavarians, who have been terrific this season even with injuries of late, are now without a defeat in the Champions League thus far.

Bayern manager Hansi Flick also offered his thoughts on the win.

“Our main aim today was to reach the last 16. We made things very hard in the first half because we gave the ball away too easily.”

“We were sloppy and not focused; we need to do better and be ready for opponents to make things difficult for us. But I’m happy. we’ve played four and won four.”
