Juventus 0-2 Barcelona: Alvaro Morata denied three goals by VAR

Lionel Messi-Barcelona

The Spanish striker was ruled offside by VAR on three occasions.

Barcelona have edged out Juventus 2-0 at Allianz Stadium on Matchday 2 of the Champions League.

The visitors drew first blood after Ousmane Dembele’s left-footed strike took a big deflection before finding the nets.

Soon after, Alvaro Morata thought he had found the equalizer for Juve before he was deemed offside by VAR. The Spaniard would score two more goals only to be ruled offside by VAR.

Lionel Messi scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the stoppage time after a foul on Ansu Fati. Despite scoring the goal, the Blaugrana skipper produced a sumptuous performance.

Prior to the goal, Merih Demiral was sent off after accumulating two yellow cards in the game.

The game was indeed played on high-tempo as both the teams often left their defence wide open.

However, it is goals which will count at the end of the match and Ronald Koeman’s side had enough of them to sink the Bianconeri.

Barca were forced to play with one nominal centre-back after Ronald Araujo came out injured at the half time.

Pedri continues to impress for the Catalans as he looks to be the ideal replacement for the injured Philippe Coutinho. Antoine Griezmann also fared well in the attack.

Juventus had a tough night to remember after the VAR decisions and the red card of Demiral. The defeat also marked their first under Andrea Pirlo this season.

Elsewhere, Barca have picked two out of two wins in the Champions League despite their lacklustre form in La Liga.
