Lothar Matthaus - Lewandowski is better than Messi

Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus claims Lewandowski is better than Messi. The former Bayern star has made a shocking comments ahead of the Champions League clash.

Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has claimed that Robert Lewandowski is head and shoulders above Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi.

The former Germany international has come up with a shocking statement ahead of the Champions League clash between Bayern and Barca.

Matthaus, who won the World Cup in 1990, said,

“Messi faces his successor as the best player in the world: Robert Lewandowski. He is the best player, not just the best forward.”

He also added that the current Barca line-up doesn’t pose enough threat to the Bavarians while admitting that Messi still can be a difference-maker.

“The Barca of today is no longer the same as before. They have Messi, of course. A player like him is always capable of genius.”

“But he alone will not be enough against this Bayern. Barcelona does not scare me.”

Lewandowski is arguably one of the best strikers in Europe at the moment as his tally of 53 goals in all competitions with Bayern this season speaks for itself.

However, Matthaus’ statement to undermine Messi has really created quite a buzz.

The Argentine striker hasn’t been as free-flowing as he ever was this season, but his tally of 25 goals and 22 assists is taken for granted.

Both Lewandowski and Messi have been influential for their sides in UCL this season, with both the players scoring in the round of 16.

Both of them will be in action as Barca are set to lock horns with the Bundesliga champions in the quarter-finals.
