Real Madrid forward Mariano has tested positive for Coronavirus ahead of their Champions league showdown with Manchester City.

The player is now in self-isolation and he will take no part in the contest.

Real Madrid will travel to Manchester for the second leg of the knockouts in August and they will be hoping to overturn the deficit with a good performance.

Los Blancos recently won the La Liga and they will be hoping to do well in the European competition as well.

Mariano’s diagnosis is unlikely to affect their participation in the competition. The other players are in perfect health and the game is set to go ahead without any issues.

UEFA have already given their stance on the matter and they are “in contact with the club and monitoring both the situation and decisions of the relevant Spanish authorities”.

Furthermore, UEFA also claimed that they “are confident that this case will not affect the regular staging of the match in question.”

Manchester City managed to win the first leg 2-1 at Santiago Bernabeu and they will be confident of getting the job done next month.

Pep Guardiola’s side have a stronger squad and they are in good form as well. Furthermore, they will be desperate for European glory this summer.

City conceded the league title to Liverpool and the only way this season would be a success is if they win the Champions league in the end.
