Porto, Manchester City share points, as both qualify into next round

Manchester City and Porto share the spoils in an evenly fought Champions League tie.

Manchester City were held to a 0-0 draw against Porto in the UEFA Champions League earlier tonight.

Manchester City have already qualified for the next round of the tournament and tonight’s draw is hardly an issue for them.

Pep Guardiola‘s side have 13 points from five group games and they’re likely to end up on top of Group C.

Meanwhile, Porto will be satisfied with their performance at home tonight and they will be hoping to win their final group game and finish as the group winners.

The Portuguese outfit are three points behind Manchester City in the standings and they could claim top spot if City lose their final game and Porto manage to win handsomely.

Manchester City were the better team heading into the game and the fans would have expected a comfortable win for them.

Manchester City was denied a goal as VAR showed that Bernardo Silva to be offside before keeping the ball for Gabriel Jesus whose header was saved by Agustin Marchesin. Jesus put the ball in from a rebound, before the goal was reviewed.

Although the result will not affect the chances of qualifying to the knockout rounds, Guardiola will demand a better performance from his players in the coming months.

Porto travel to Olympiakos in their next group game and Manchester City host Marseille. It will be interesting to see which team finishes on top of Group C as it could help them secure an easier tie in the knockout rounds of the competition.
