UEFA Champions League Preview: Shakhtar Donetsk vs Inter Milan

Inter 4-3 Fiorentina Inter plunge two goals in closing moments to secure win

Shakhtar will lock horns with Inter Milan in the matchday two of the Champions League.

Stadium: NSC Olympiyskiy

Key Statistics

  • Inter have been the better side in their last three UCL encounters against Shakhtar, two wins and a draw.
  • Shakhtar are without a win in their last home six games at UCL and also doesn’t boast an impressive record against Italian oppositions.

Shakhtar Donetsk

Shakhtar Donetsk surprised everyone when they defeated La Liga Champions Real Madrid in their first group stage game last week. The Ukrainian giants won the away game 3-2, with all their goals coming in the first half itself.

Despite not having the best of the records in UCL in recent times, Shakhtar are capable of doing anything unexpected to the Serie A rivals.

Tete and Manor Solomon are some of the exciting talents to watch out for on Wednesday, both having scored in the game against Madrid.

Injured players: Ismaily, Yevhen Konoplyanka, Serhiy Kryvtsov, Viktor Kovalenko and Junior Moraes.

Possible line-up

Trubin; Dodo, Bondar, Khocholava, Korniyenko; Antonio, Maycon, Marlos, Solomon, Tete; Dentinho.

Inter Milan

Inter Milan’s start to the Champions League was a bit obnoxious as they scrapped a 2-2 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Despite starting the season on a high note, they have dropped points against Lazio and arch-rivals AC Milan.

Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi and Nico Barella have been some of the positives that happened to the Nerazzurri, with all playing a pivotal role under Antonio Conte.

Inter might well be aware of the oppositions they are up against and the danger they possess, especially in transitions.

Injured players: Matias Vecino, Milan Skriniar and Roberto Gagliardini.

Possible line-up

Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Bastoni, Kolarov; Hakimi, Barella, Vidal, Eriksen, Perisic; Martinez, Lukaku
