Benfica 1-1 Arsenal: Saka draws level for the Gunners

Bukayo Saka-Arsenal

Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw against Benfica in the first leg of the Europa League knockout rounds.

The Gunners would have wanted to pick up a vital away win but a draw is not a bad result at all.

The Premier League side have managed to pick up the all-important away goal and it could prove to be vital in the second leg.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be disappointed with his performance tonight and the Arsenal striker missed two glorious chances and he could have easily won the game for his side.

Benfica took the lead through Pizzi who converted from the penalty spot. Emile Smith Rowe conceded the penalty with a handball.

The Gunners got back into the game two minutes later with an excellent equaliser from Bukayo Saka and the goal was deemed legitimate after a VAR review.

Bernd Leno produced a couple of important saves from the likes of Rafa Silva to keep the scores level in the second half and grind out a point for his side.

Arsenal will have to improve in the final third in the second leg if they want to book their place in the next round of the competition.

They were wasteful tonight and they cannot afford to squander opportunities against quality opposition like Benfica in the second leg.
