Lille 1-1 Milan: Castillejo’s early second-half strike cancelled out by Bamba

Milan and Lille share spoils after 1-1 draw in Europa League.

Milan have been held to 1-1 draw by Lille after failing to capitalise on Samu Castillejo’s early goal in the second half.

Rossoneri forced goalkeeper Mike Maignan early on in the game but nearly had a let-off at the other end when Matteo Gabbia’s pass to Tonali was intercepted; much to the relief of Milan, Yaziki hit the shot wide while Donnarumma was also caught off guard.

The Italian goalkeeper was later tested with a couple of decent chances by Araujo before heading to the half-time break.

Milan had their lead in the opening minute of the second-half following a brilliant counter-attack. Tonali picked out Ante Rebic, who later laid off the ball for Samu Castillejo to find the nets.

The hosts found the equaliser when Jonathan Bamba’s strike took a faintest of deflection to go past Donnarumma.

Milan have failed to hold on to their lead as they have now dropped points for the second time against Lille in the group stage of Europa League this season.

The Ligue 1 outfit are currently leading the table while Milan are behind them. Celtic aren’t too far either as they are trailing the Italian club by a point.

Milan’s makeshift manager Daniele Bonera has offered his thoughts on the draw.

“We put in a very good performance, it’s a pity we got distracted in that situation on their goal, because the team had controlled the game. It was a completely different Milan to the home match,”

We’re pleased with the team spirit, the way everyone is working together, the only disappointment tonight was the result.”
