Wolves striker Raul Jimenez has undergone surgery on a fractured skull suffered in his side’s Premier League win at Arsenal on Sunday.

The Mexican was taken to the hospital on Monday after being stretchered off the pitch after being given oxygen following a clash of heads with Arsenal defender David Luiz.

The incident occurred at the early stages of the game as the striker and defender knocked heads together while going for an Arsenal corner. With the injuries to Jimenez and David Luiz, the match was paused for about 10 minutes to allow both players to receive proper medical attention.

David Luiz was able to continue after being bandaged up, while the Wolves striker was taken to the hospital where a scan revealed he had suffered a fractured skull.

He has since undergone the successful surgery in a London hospital and is stable and responding to treatment.

In a statement released by Wolves on Monday, the club said:

“Raul is comfortable following an operation last night, which he underwent in a London hospital.

“He has since seen his partner Daniela and is now resting. He will remain under observation for a few days while he begins his recovery.

“The club would like to thank the medical staff at Arsenal, the NHS paramedics, hospital staff and surgeons who, through their skill and early response, were of such help.

“The club asks that Raul and his family are now afforded a period of space and privacy before any further updates are provided in due course.

The striker has since gone on Twitter offer his gratitude for the support messages and promised to “return to the pitch soon.”
