Cristiano Ronaldo could be gearing up for his penultimate international tournament with Portugal this summer.

The 36-year-old forward is unlikely to play in another European Championship after this one, and the World Cup could well be his last major international tournament.

Portugal are currently the holders of the European Championships, and they will be looking to defend their title this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo side managed to beat France in the finals of the Euro 2016, and the Juventus forward will be hoping for more of the same this time around.

It has been a disappointing club campaign for Ronaldo, and he will be desperate to end the season on a high.

The 36-year-old has scored 21 goals for Juventus since the turn of the year, and there is no reason why he cannot star in this summer’s European Championships and guide his country to international glory once again.

Portugal have a hugely impressive squad at their disposal with a massive array of talents across the pitch.

Players like Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Ruben Neves, Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix and Diogo Jota are immensely talented, and they will be looking for guidance and leadership from arguably one of the finest players to have ever graced the football pitch.

It remains to be seen whether Cristiano Ronaldo can lead a talented young Portuguese side to glory in this summers European Championships now.

The Portuguese forward will be disappointed with the failures at the club level this season, and winning the European Championships could turn a mediocre season into a spectacular one.

Ronaldo has always managed to step up for his country in the big moments, and the last time Portugal won the European Championships in 2016, he was the second top scorer in the tournament with three goals.

It remains to be seen whether he can sign off in style from what could be his final European Championships as a player.
