Ukraine will look to bounce back from a disappointing opening game loss against the Netherlands when they take on European competition debutants Northern Macedonia in Group C match, this Thursday.

Stadium: Arena Națională (Bucharest)

Key Statistics

Ukraine have lost once in their last five games.  Andriy Shevchenko’s side have scored in eight out of their last ten games.  Only Shevchenko has scored more goals for Ukraine (48) than Andriy Yarmolenko (41),

North Macedonia have won three of their previous five games (D1, L1). They have only failed to score in one of their last ten games. They also have scored two or more goals in six of their last ten games

At 37-year-old Goran Pandev became the competition’s oldest scorer since 2008 when he equalised for North Macedonia against Austria.

Head to Head

Ukraine 2 wins; 1 draw; North Macedonia 1 win; Ukraine scored 3 goals against 1 by North Macedonia (in total of 4 matches)

Latest Performance

Ukraine: DDDWWL (Goals for 10, Goals against 5)

North Macedonia: LWWDWL (Goals for 15, Goals against 8)

Ukraine

After their loss to the Netherlands, Ukraine are now aiming to pick up their first points in this year’s European Championship.

Despite losing their first game, they will be proud of their performance and the manner of their fightback after going 2-0 down early in the second half.

The match was the first time they conceded more than one goal in a game since losing 3-0 to Switzerland in November 2020.

They will hope to avoid a poor defensive game as they aim to pick up their first win and keep their chances of qualifying from this group alive.

Possible line-ups

Andriy Pyatov, Oleksandr Karavayev, Serhiy Kryvtsov, Mykola Matviyenko, Vitaliy Mykolenko, Taras Stepanenko, Andriy Yarmolenko, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Oleksandr Zubkov, Roman Yaremchuk.

North Macedonia

North Macedonia’s journey in the European Championship continues this Thursday when they play Ukraine in their second game of the 2020 Euros.

Despite being the lowest-ranked team in the European Championship this year, The Lynxes are playing without fear. Against Austria, in their opening match, they could hold on for much of the game before falling to a late defeat.

They will look to put in another good shift on Thursday and hope that they can pull off an upset akin to the one they did when they beat Germany in their World Cup qualifier match in March.

The Euro debutants are surprisingly in a good run of form and have won six of their last ten games—three times the number that Ukraine won in the same number of games.

Possible line-ups

Stole Dimitrievski; Darko Velovski, Visar Musliu, Kire Ristevski; Ezgjan Alioski, Eljif Elmas, Arijan Ademi, Enis Bardhi, Stefan Ristovski; Aleksandar Trajkovski, Goran Pandev.
