Euro 2020 team of the tournament: Italy and England dominate while Ronaldo, Mbappe miss out

Euro 2020 has revealed its ultimate playing 11 of the tournament, and unsurprisingly five players from Champions Italy have made the cut. However, there is no place for Cristiano Ronaldo and Patrick Schick, who bagged the most goals in European Championship.

Other notable players who do not feature in this list are, Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, Kevin De Bruyne.

Gianluigi Donnarumma (Goalkeeper)

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had a terrific European Championship, which eventually saw him bag the player of the tournament award.

Leonardo Bonucci ( Centre-back)

The man of the match in the Euro final, veteran defender Leanardo Bonnci was instrumental behind Italy’s fairy tale run in Euros.

Harry Maguire (centre-back)

Harry Maguire was clinical in the defence for England, who conceded only two goals throughout the tournament. The Manchester United centre-back also looked at his best with the ball-carrying abilities.

Kyle Walker (right-back)

Maguire’s defensive partner Kyle Walker was solid in the defence and also unstoppable while joining the attack.

Leonardo Spinazzola (left-back)

Spinazzola had his season cut-off after picking a serious injury in the quarter-finals against Belgium. However, his influence on Roberto Mancini’s side was humongous.

Jorginho (midfielder)

Italian defensive midfielder Jorginho came out as one of the best players of the tournaments, and he is now considered a serious contender for the Ballon d’Or award.

Pierre Emile Hojberg (midfielder)

Denmark became the dark horse of the tournament after reaching the semi-finals. Pierre-Emile Hojberg was at the heart of their midfield as he built on the impressive season at Spurs.

Pedri (midfielder)

Spanish teenager Pedri caught everyone’s attention after enjoying a spell-binding European Championship campaign. The Blaugrana teenager was bestowed with the young player of the tournament award.

Federico Chiesa (winger)

Chiesa was one of the revelations of the Euro 2020, playing a pivotal role behind Italy’s success. The Juventus youngster racked up 2 goals in the knockout phase and always provided a constant threat to the opponents with his sheer pace and skills.

Raheem Sterling (winger)

Sterling left behind his troubled season at Manchester City and became the national hero for England. He racked up three goals and an assist.

Romelu Lukaku (striker)

Romelu Lukaku was a surprise inclusion as Belgium bit the dust in the quarter-finals. However, the Inter Milan striker was lethal in the attack, managing 4 goals in 5 games he played.
