La Albiceleste have been knocked out of the Tokyo Olympics in the group stage.

Argentina have been knocked out of Tokyo Olympics football following their draw in the group stage.

La Albiceleste, which mainly featured U-23 players, needed a win against Spain to secure their place in the quarter-finals, but they failed to do so.

Brazil players, including the likes of Douglas Luiz and Richarlison, turned up for the game between Argentina and Spain, and they made a meal of the former’s defeat by posting a video on Instagram, in which they were seen waving goodbye to the Argentine team alongside the caption “Goodbye Brothers”.

Brazilians’ mockery can be implied as a reply to their defeat in the Copa America finals against Argentina. Angel Di Maria’s only goal in the final saw Lionel Messi and co end their trophy drought after a long haul.

Now, Argentine midfielder Rodrigo de Paul, who was part of the team’s Copa America triumph, has responded to the Brazilian players’ taunting.

The newly signed Atletico Madrid midfielder took to Instagram to post a photo of Richarlison and himself that was taken during the Copa America final, and with the caption of a shush emoji. De Paul was also seen pointing his finger at the Everton star, who was on his knees, in that picture.

The incident must have stirred the long-standing rivalry between the two teams, and it will be highly fascinating when both face off in the World Cup qualifiers later this year.
