Three Lions have picked up a comprehensive win against Iceland in Nations League.
Manchester City youngster Phil Foden has announced his return in style as he scored a double in 4-0 routing of Iceland in Nations League.
Three Lions opened the account in the 20th minute after Declan Rice directed the ball to the nets from Foden’s set-piece.
Not long after, Mason Mount doubled the lead for England as his left-footed strike beat past Kristinsson.
With the visitors reducing to 10-man in the second half after Saevarsson’s red card, Foden scored a quick brace in the space of lesser than five minutes – the first of two goals was his maiden senior team goal.
The 20-year-old announced his return with a bang after missing out on England’s previous international break along with Manchester United teenager Mason Greenwood for breaching the quarantine protocols. Furthermore, Foden has been impressive for Citizens in the Premier League this season.
The win could also be a sigh of relief for Gareth Southgate’s men following their defeat against Belgium, which also crushed the hopes of England’s Nations League finals.
Southgate would also be pleased with the victory especially after the injuries to key players like Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez.
Elsewhere, Iceland were quite dormant tonight and a red card in the second half didn’t help them either.
England concludes the international break on a strong note although they ended up being third in their group table following Belgium and Denmark.
