Wales 1:0 Ireland: Brooks scored from a Bale assist

Wales picked up a 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Nations League group game earlier today.

David Brooks scored the only goal of the game for the home side on the 66th minute.

The Bournemouth star converted with a powerful header after a cross from Gareth Bale found him free and waiting inside the Irish box.

Gareth Bale hit the crossbar earlier on in the game and Republic of Ireland had their chances as well. Robbie Brady was inches from scoring the opening goal of the game.

Wales are now on top of their Nations League group.

Republic of Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick was sent off in added time  for his poor challenge on Tyler Roberts who was through on goal.

Wales have won four of their last five nations League matches and they are now one point clear of second placed Finland.

Despite the win, Robert Page will not be too happy with the performance from Wales here.

The home side gave the ball away cheaply in the first half and they were causing their own problems.

Republic of Ireland failed to capitalise on their mistakes but Wales kept on inviting pressure by giving away cheap free kicks.

The defeat tonight leaves Republic of Ireland third in the table a point in front of Bulgaria.
