Real Madrid Club de Futbol
Founded In: March 6, 1902
Nickname: Los Blancos
Slogan: Hala Madrid
Ground: Estadio Santiago Bernabéu(Capacity-81,044)
Opening: 14 December 1947
President: Florentino Pérez
The club was founded in Madrid by Julián Palacios. The term “real” means “royal” in Spanish, and it was given to the club by King Alfonso XIII in 1920, along with the royal crown in the club’s emblem.
Real Madrid was one of the founding members of the Primera Division and has been part of La Liga since 1928. They won their first league title in 1932.
Between 1956 to 1960, the club won UEFA European Cup 5 consecutive times, and this was a marvel of magnificent management of club president Santiago Bernabéu.
The team continued their good run throughout all the competition and ended up being record winners of La Liga, 33 times and champions league, 13 times. Former Real player Zinedine Zidane returned as the manager and won 3 consecutive UCL.
An uncountable number of legends have worn the shirt for Los Blancos. Di Stéfano, Ferenc Puskás and Francisco Gento were some of the greats. On-field maestros like David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Ricardo Kaka, Ronaldo,
Roberto Carlos, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Marcelo have been part of their great squad. The club’s Ballon D’or award winners include Di Stéfano, Kopa, Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo, Owen, Cannavaro, Kaká, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Modric.
Raul holds the record for most appearances for the club(741). Cristiano Ronaldo is the club’s all-time top scorer with 450 goals, while Iker Casillas has the most clean sheet for the club.
El Clasico, also known as The Classic, is regarded as the most important match in club football history. Since their inception, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been bitter rivals. Their rivalry dates back to the Spanish Civil War at the city level. Both the teams have dominated world football for a fair share of time, and their star players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been part of the World’s Greatest Footballer debate. Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two teams with the world’s biggest fan base, which sparks the game to a new level. Real Madrid won the last fixture 3-1.
The match between Atletico de Madrid and Real Madrid is considered the Madrid Derby. The rivalry between the two clubs dates back to the early twentieth century. Atletico Madrid stood in the way of Real Madrid’s ambitions to establish themselves as the capital’s strongest team. It is the second biggest match in Spanish football, and in the 21’st century, after the growth of Atletico’s fan base, the derby madness has been a worldwide phenomenon.
