Brisbane Roar 5-2 Melbourne Victory: McDonald, Danzaki double sinks Victory, Brisbane roar to top

Scott McDonald-Brisbane Roar

Brisbane moved to the top of the A-League table after thrashing Melbourne Victory.

Brisbane Roar thrashed Melbourne Victory 5-2 to climb to the top spot, with Scott McDonald and Riku Danzaki scoring a double.

The first half was an exciting watch as six goals were shared between both the clubs.

The fearsome attacking trio of Denzel Halls, McDonald and Danzaki wreaked havoc to Melbourne Victory’s defence, with the former one opening the account inside nine minutes.

Minutes later, McDonald doubled the lead through a stunning half-volley before Danzaki made it 3-0 for the Roar in the 17th minute.

The visitors showed some spirit when Lawrie Lattanzio pulled one back but that couldn’t keep Brisbane from piling more woes as McDonald completed his brace in the 35th minute after netting a header.

The first half couldn’t have asked for more entertainment as Brimmer scored the second goal for Victory courtesy of a superb free-kick at the stroke of the half time.

However, Victory failed to make use of the momentum they gained right before the break as Japanese midfielder Danzaki scored his second of the evening as soon as the second half commenced, thus making the scoreline 5-2 in favour of the hosts.

Melbourne failed to cope with the insurmountable attack of the Roar, especially from the above-mentioned trio.

The win takes Brisbane to the top of the table with 12 points, having won 4 of their 5 games so far.
