Macarthur 0-2 Central Coast Mariners: De Silva, Smiley goals hand Mariners back to back wins

Central Coast Mariners Celebration

Macarthur suffered a disappointing defeat in their first home game of the season.

Central Coast Mariners have comfortably defeated Macarthur FC 2-0 at Campbelltown Stadium, thus continuing their strong start to the season.

Both the sides were coming off a win in their first game of the league this season and the clash was touted as an exciting one.

Mariners had a great chance to make their mark around the half-hour mark after Matt Simon’s misdirected strike but they soon got their first goal through Daniel De Silva’s strike. Josh Nisbet found the on-rushing De Silva, who fired the ball into the nets.

Franjic’s strike from the set-piece almost travelled to the goal before Birighitti made a stunning save to deny the equaliser. The Austrian keeper has now secured his second consecutive clean sheet in the league this season.

Mariners put the game beyond doubts after Jordan Smiley’s winning goal in the dying moments of the game, with another substitute Daniel Bouman providing the assist.

Despite enjoying more possession for the entirety of the game, Macarthur lacked the end product in front of goal, which saw them lose their first game at home.

The Yellow and Navy are brimming with confidence after securing back to back wins and currently first in the table.

It remains to be seen how long can they keep their winning momentum intact as they will next face Western Sydney Wanderers in the space of two weeks.
