Sydney have beaten Macarthur comprehensively in the derby.

Sydney FC have emerged as the winners after beating Macarthur 3-0 in the derby as Patrick Wood came off the bench to score a double.

The visitors had a couple of bright chances early on in the game, with defender McGowan’s volley from the corner kick being denied by goalkeeper Federici and Trent Buhagiar also misdirected his shot from close range.

Macarthur were soon reduced to ten men after Mark Milligan was shown a red card for his cynical foul on Buhagiar. Nonetheless, the hosts held on to a goalless first-half.

Despite being a man down, Macarthur showed more intentions at the start of the second half – as Derbyshire had a goal disallowed due to offside – but their morale was shattered when Sydney FC went 1-0 up in the 66th minute. Barbarouses had his shot saved by Federici in the first attempt but Patrick Wood clung on to the spillage to send the ball into the nets.

Sydney piled more pressure on the home side as Milos Ninkovic doubled the lead after ten minutes, having had a shot denied by Federici minutes earlier.

Wood put the game to bed after scoring the third goal for Sydney FC in the 86th minutes, which also marked his second of the night.

The 18-year-old had a memorable performance as he came off the bench at the hour mark to score a double.

Meanwhile, Macarthur lost their momentum midway through the game especially when they conceded the first goal. Milligan’s red card also contributed to one of their reasons for the defeat.

Sydney have moved to the fourth position while Macarthur, who failed to build on the win against Newcastle Jets last week, are currently seventh.
