Macarthur edge out Wanderers in an entertaining derby.
Macarthur got off to a dream start after beating Western Sydney Wanderers away in their opening A-League game.
The first half saw the visitors dominate the proceedings as Wanderers were kept at backfoot.
It was right before the half-time whistle when Wanderers looked dangerous on a counter-attack, however, Macarthur’s goalkeeper Adam Federici made a stunning save to deny Simon Cox’s thunderous strike. The Australian keeper continued his heroics in the second half as Wanderers found it difficult to get past him.
Lachlan Rose thought he had opened the account for Macarthur before his goal was ruled out as offside by VAR.
With the final quarter approaching, the visitors broke the deadlock as substitute Benat Exterbarria’s free-kick took a deflection before finding the empty nets through Mark Milligan, as keeper Margush was completely deceived. The goal proved decisive as Macarthur grabbed three points in their first game of the season.
It was a game of keepers as Macarthur’s Margush also had his fair share of saves.
Macarthur also made history by becoming the sixth team to win their inaugural fixture in A-League.
Furthermore, it wasn’t the start Wanderers would have expected as their woes from the last season continued.
Western Sydney Wanderers would be rueing over the freekick which saw them concede the only goal of the game. On the other hand, Macarthur will be delighted to get off to a winning start.
