Another Day, Another Win- ATK Mohun Bagan register comfortable win over NorthEast United

ATK Mohun Bagan Celebratioin

ATK Mohun Bagan continued their unbeaten run after clinching a rather comfortable 2-0 win over North East United today. The Highlanders continued their poor form against the very settled Mariners who outplayed them throughout the second half of the match.

The first half saw both teams launch one counterattack after another, but no chances were converted. There were a couple of chances for the Mariners early on in the game with a spot kick from a tricky position, but the Highlanders managed to avert the danger and a header from Carl McHugh just over the bar.

The Highlanders too failed to convert when Dylan Fox was denied by ATK Mohun Bagan’s defence.

After a goalless first half, in which the teams seemed equally pitted, none other than Roy Krishna broke the deadlock by scoring a superb header, 51 minutes into the game. Edu Garcia curled in a corner kick and Tiri flicked it in and an unmarked Roy Krishna fired in the header to make it 1-0.

Almost 6 minutes after, another curling corner from Garcia went to Benjamin Lambot, who failed to clear the ball as defender Sandeep Jhingan masterfully kept him in pressure inside his own box, thus conceding an own goal. Thus, Mariners had a comfortable lead of 2-0 with NEUFC suffering an own goal from their captain.

The scoreline remained the same for the rest of the match, with some interesting plays from both the teams. As expected of two counter attacking teams, the number of passes were relatively low. The Mariners brought in a fresh pair of legs as Glan Martins and Manvir Singh replaced Garcia and Prabir Das, and earlier, Pronay Halder who replaced SK. Sahil during the early part of the second half.

Roy Krishna was adjudged the Hero of the Match for his outstanding performance with the ball, who scored his 6th goal in the Hero ISL 2021.

ATK Mohun Bagan will like to continue their unbeaten streak against a strong Mumbai City FC on the 11th oanuary. The competition is on and it is yet to see who comes as the table topper in the match. NorthEast United, who is now in the 6th position in the table, will be pitted against Hyderabad FC on 8th January.
