Chennaiyin 0-1 Bengaluru: Chhetri scores from spot as Bengaluru FC register win

Sunil Chhetri-Bengaluru FC

Chennaiyin FC crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League earlier tonight.

Sunil Chhetri, captain of Indian national team and Bengaluru FC, scored the only goal of the game for Bengaluru FC.

Bengaluru failed to impress in their first two matches and they ended up drawing against Goa and Hyderabad.

They were under pressure to pick up a win tonight and they will be delighted to have picked up all three points regardless of how they performed.

As for Chennaiyin FC, they started the Indian Super League with a win over Jamshedpur and then dropped two points against Kerala. They would have expected to pick up all three points here and they will be thoroughly disappointed with their performance tonight.

It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back with a strong performance in their next game.

Both teams took a cautious approach today and the defensive organisation was on point.

It was a cagey affair and neither team managed to create too many chances.

Sunil Chhetri managed to convert from the penalty spot on the 56th minute to secure a win for his team after having underperformed in the first two matches of the Indian Super League.

Edwin Vanspaul brought down Cleiton Silva in the box to gift Bengaluru their match-winning penalty.

Both teams have managed to win the Indian Super League in the past and they will be desperate to do well this season.

Neither side have been at their best so far and they will have to improve a lot in order to go all the way in the competition this year.
