East Bengal all set to take part in Indian Super League

East Bengal are all set to take part in this year’s Indian Super League after roping in lucrative sponsors in the form of Shree Cement.

The hugely popular football club will play in the ISL under the name of SC East Bengal.

Previously Mohun Bagan merged with the successful ISL franchise ATK and that led to the formation of ATK Mohun Bagan.

FSDL chairperson Nita Ambani believes that the inclusion of these heritage clubs will add to the prestige of the competition.

She said: “It is such a happy and proud moment for ISL as we welcome East Bengal FC and their millions of fans into the League. The inclusion of both legacy clubs, i.e. East Bengal and Mohun Bagan (now ATK Mohun Bagan) opens limitless possibilities for Indian football, especially for talent development in the state.”

East Bengal have been hugely successful over the years along with Mohun Bagan and they have millions of fans across the country.

It will be interesting to see how they fare in the ISL in the upcoming seasons now. Furthermore, this move will add more glamour to the high-octane Kolkata derby.

They are in talks to appoint Robbie Fowler as their manager as well and these are exciting times for the fans of the club.

As a club, East Bengal have managed to win the first division title a record 39 times along with eight Federation Cups, three Super Cups, a record 29 IFA Shield titles, and a record 16 Durand Cup titles.
