Goa 1-1 NorthEast United: Sylla and Angulo scored from either end

FC Goa were held to a 1-1 draw against NorthEast United in the Indian Super League earlier today.

Goa enjoyed 76% of possession but they struggled to breach the NorthEast defence due to the lack of craft and imagination in the midfield.

They will have to improve a lot in the coming months if they want to do well in the Indian Super League this season. Goa have picked up just two points from three matches so far.

Meanwhile, NorthEast United will be reasonably happy with their defensive performance today. They have five points from 3 matches in the Indian Super League.

NorthEast United took the lead through Idrissa Sylla after he earned a penalty thanks to a challenge from Ivan Gonzalez.

His first effort was ruled out because of encroachment but Sylla managed to convert the penalty in his second attempt.

Igor Angulo equalised for FC Goa three minutes later and both teams held on for a point in the end.

Jorge Ortiz will demand a lot more from his players in the coming weeks and it will be interesting to see if Goa can improve on the attacking front.

As far as North East United are concerned, Apuia was handed the armband today and he has now become the youngest ever captain in the Indian Super League.
