Goa 3-0 Jamshedpur: Mendoza brace helps the Gaurs to maul the Red miners

Jorge Ortiz Mendoza-FC Goa

Welcome back to today’s daily dose of Hero Indian Super League. FC Goa won today’s match held in the Fatorda stadium against Jamshedpur FC 3-0, with the help of a brace by Jorge Mendoza

The Gaurs looked in good flow as they moved up to the third position in the points table with today’s win. Totally outclassed by their rivals, Jamshedpur FC was down to 10 men as Alex Lima was sent off in the 85th minute. Their woes continue to pile on as they are currently placed 7th in the points table but with just 3 wins from 11 matches.

From the very beginning of the match, Juan Ferrando‘s boys took charge and won a free kick in the first 5 minutes of play. Edu Bedia‘s free-kick from the right flank was cleared off by Narendar Gahlot in what was a nervy opening for the Red miners.

Jamshedpur FC too had two attempts at goal in the initial stages of the match. Aitor Monroy‘s freekick went straight to an unmarked Peter Hartley but he missed an easy chance. Again, Isaac Vanmalsawma‘s attempt at goal from the edge of the penalty box was negated by an alert Naveen Kumar, and he parried the ball away for a corner.

The deadlock was broken soon after in the 19th minute as Jorge Mendoza netted a good ball from Alberto Noguera

Almost soon after Nerijus Valskis missed a sitter. Alex Lima’s beautiful run through the left flank saw him enter the penalty area and the pass found the unmarked Valskis but the latter missed a first touch shot on goal.

About 7 minutes into the second half, it was Jorge Mendoza who again scored for FC Goa. Brandon Fernandes‘ low cross for the unmarked forward was finished expertly as Mendoza completed his brace and doubled their lead.

Again just 4 minutes later, Brandon Fernandes’ squared a low cross again for Mendoza in the middle. However, this time Jamshedpur FC’s defence intervened and blocked the attempt. It could have been a hat-trick for Mendoza but there was some good defending on display this time around.

FC Goa kept on looking dangerous, especially Jorge Mendoza who again found himself in the middle of the action. Alberto Noguera’s excellent through ball was collected by Mendoza but his attempt towards the goal was fisted away by a leaping TP Rehenesh.

Playmaker Alex Lima was sent off in the 85th minute of the game as he picked up his second yellow of the night. The last nail in the coffin was struck when Ivan Gonzalez scored FC Goa’s third of the night as his solo run yielded a beautifully built up goal. It was all over for Jamshedpur FC then at this time. The 4 minutes of added time did not trouble the scorers.

Hero of the Match: NAVEEN KUMAR

The award for the Hero of the Match went to Naveen Kumar for his brilliant saves for the Gaurs and the DHL Winning Pass of the Match went to Brandon Fernandes.

FC Goa would be really happy with the results and would go in confidently against second-placed ATK Mohun Bagan in their next match. Jamshedpur FC, on the other hand, would have a lot of work to do when they face NorthEast United FC in their upcoming match.
